Punjab assembly appeals for sarbjeet's freedom

Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) The Punjab assembly today made a forceful appeal for the release of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner against whom the Pakistan government yesterday issued a death warrant.

''We appeal to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter of Sarabjit's release directly with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf,'' a resolution unanimously passed by the assembly stated.

The resolution moved by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that Sarabjit, who is under detention at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, should be released on humanitarian ground as his was a case of mistaken identity.
