Prohibitory orders after 5 murders in MP town

Narsinghpur, MP, Mar 17 (UNI) Prohibitory orders were imposed in this district's Gadarwara tahsil headquarters, about 50 km from here, after police fired in the air following arson and stone-pelting by a mob after the murder of five people this afternoon during looting at a teacher's residence by motorcycle-borne ruffians.

The situation was stated to be under control. People took to the streets after the quintuple homicide during looting. A stationary truck was torched in front of the police station and arson attempted at the police station. ''Prohibitory orders were imposed at 1700 hrs,'' said Sub-Divisional Magistrate R P Tiwari.

An additional police force is stationed at Gadarwara.

Preliminary reports quoted police as saying that teacher Kishor Tiwari was among the deceased but Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Shrivastav told mediapersons in the evening that the teacher was hospitalised in a state of shock.

''The deceased were identified as Mr Tiwari's wife Manjulata (35), son Naman (12), mother-in-law Gyanvati (65), father-in-law Manmohan (70) and servant Munnibai (35) all of whom were stabbed,'' the officer said. The quantum of looted material was being ascertained. Senior police officers reached the spot.
