Maya to Centre: Ask China to exercise restraint
Lucknow, Mar 17 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today urged the Centre to stand up and ask China to exercise restraint on their aggressive approach in curbing the agitation in Tibet.
''Peaceful talks should be the way to sort out the issue rather than going for violent action against the demonstrators,'' she said while talking to mediapersons here.
Expressing concern over the situation at Tibet, Mayawati said the Indian government should take initiative for permanent solution of the Tibet issue.
''The approach of the Chinese government was not appropriate and such issues cannot be solved in such a manner,'' she commented.
Meanwhile, raising the issue of the Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who is slated to be hanged in Pakistan on April 1, the UP Chief Minister urged the Centre to make diplomatic efforts for his early release.
''The Centre should make all possible efforts to prevent Sarabjit's hanging and later mount pressure on the neighbouring government for his release,'' she said.
