IUML demands action on Sachar report
Vijayawada, Mar 17 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Unit of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) today demanded the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre to implement the Sachar Committee recommendations without further delay.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, IUML state General Secretary Abdul Sattar Majahid said though the Rajender Singh Sachar Committee which investigated the economic backwardness of the Muslim community in the country and submitted its report to the Centre in November 2006, the UPA government has not so far implemented its recommendations.
He said the report highlighted the poor state of Muslim minorities in education and other departments.
Mr Majahid said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced in Parliament a few months ago a separate package for development of minorities. All the political parties except the BJP supported it. But the Centre has not honoured its own announcement so far, he alleged.
On the Ranganath Mishra Commission report which recommended 12 per cent Reservation for Muslims on the basis of a survey, he said the report was submitted to the Centre on May 21, 2007. But the Centre had not tabled it in Parliament so far, he alleged.
On the Wakf Board properties, Mr Majahid said the state government had sold 108 acres of Wakf land to Lanco Group in Hyderabad in an open auction against the rules of the Muslim law.
