600 tons capacity additional cement plant in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 17: An additional plant, having capacity of producing 600 tons of cement per day in Jammu and Kashmir cement factory at Khrew, would be completed by June this year. An amount of Rs 66 crore have been incurred so far on the additional plant which will be completed at a total cost of Rs 87.50 crore, an official spokesman said.

He said the performance of the company has shown a steady improvement during the last few years with increase in sales turnover as well as production. The turnover of the company increased from Rs 12.93 crore in 1996-97 to Rs 74.28 crore in the year 2006-07, he added.

The company has earned a profit of Rs 486 lakh during the year 2006-07 which is the highest figure achieved by the company since its inception.

He said the surrounding area of the plant have been developed by way of plantation in and around the plant, construction of compound wall and single storey building for girls school, construction of Hospital building and development of sports field among others.

Besides, the company is also going to take up various jobs in hand such as fencing of government girls higher secondary school at Khrew, upgradation of 10-bedded local hospital and construction of park in the locality.

Regarding human resources development and workers management relation, he said the company undertakes various refresher and training courses for its employees in the plant and outside the state.
