2 injured in police firing on violent mob
Nawada, Mar 17 (UNI) At least two people were injured when police opened fire to disperse a violent mob at Rupo in this extremist -dominated district of South Bihar tonight.
Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar informed that the officer-in-charge(OC) of Rupo Police station, situated about 50 km from here, opened fire when lathicharge failed to disperse an angry group of villagers.
They had gheraoed the police station in protest against the use of force by police in the local market earlier in which one of the villagers was injured.
Both the injured in police firing had since been admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, the SP said the OC had been suspended and an order of arrest issued against him on charge of resorting to firing.
As tension was still prevailing in the area, a posse of policemen had been sent there as a precautionary measure, the SP added.
