SRM University to set up film institute
Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) SRM University will set up a film institute named after late thespian Sivaji Ganesan with a minimum investment of Rs ten crore at its campus in suburban Kattankulathur.
Delivering the presidential address at the valedictory of the three-day ''Milan'08'', the first ever national-level cultural festival of the University here today, University Chancellor T R Pachamuthu said the insitute, to be set up in association with the family of the late actor, would have a school for dance and music.
It would start functioning from the coming academic year and would be first film institute to be set up in an educational institution, he added.
Later, talking to reporters, Mr Pachamuthu and University Vice-Chancellor Prof P Sathyanarayanan said this would be one of the promising departments in the University.
The institute would have all top level film experts at its advisory board and would also have visiting faculties from abroad.
It would have state-of-the-art facilities required in all aspects of film technology.
Sivaji Productions Managing Director and eldest son of the late actor G Ramkumar, who was also present, promised his full support and also that of his actor-brother Prabhu to the institute.
''We will ensure that the institute will have the best of technology on par with the international standards'', he added.
