GSM subscriber base at 184.3 million

New Delhi, Mar 16: The GSM service providers have added 5.92 million users in February 2008, as against 6.19 million subscribers a month ago, taking the total subscriber base to 184.3 million.

The figures do not include the addition by Reliance Communications Ltd. Country's leading GSM operator, Bharti Airtel, added 2.25 million users in February, capturing a market share of 32.31 per cent at a subscriber base of 59.67 million. It added the same number of subscribers in January 2008. Vodafone-Essar, which added 1.41 million users in February, is second in terms of market share with 23.04 per cent and a total subscriber base of 42.55 million. It had added 1.28 million new users previous month.

State-run telecom major BSNL added eight lakh users in February as against 1.03 million subscribers a month ago, and has a 18.72 per cent market share.

Aditya Birla-promoted Idea Cellular, which added 9.1 lakh users in February 2008, has a market share of 12.39 per cent and a total subscriber base of 22.87 million. It had added nine lakh subscribers in the previous month.

MTNL added one lakh users in the month of February 2008, while Aircel and Spice added 2.5 lakh and 1.4 lakh subscribers respectively.
