VCK holds demo on SC/ST quota in RS

Chennai, Mar 15 (UNI) The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) today staged a demonstration demanding reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes in the Rajya Sabha.

VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, who led the agitation, said four seats had to be reserved for SC/ST in the Upper House but no political party in the country was bothered about this.

The reservation system was followed during the British regime but given up after indpendence, he claimed and urged the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to revive the reservation system by amending the Constitution.

The Dalit leader said candidates from a particular state should not seek election to Rajya Sabha from other state assemblies.
