UDF team visits Chengara
Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Mar 15 (UNI) A high-level team of the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) visited the Chengara Estate today and expressed solidarity with the 'Sadhu Jana Vimochana Samyukta Vedi', which is spearheading the eight-month-long land struggle.
The team demanded immediate implementation of the assurance given by Revenue Minister K P Rajendran to the 'Vedi' leaders.
The team members, talking to reporters after making an on-the-spot assessment, condemned the 'blackmailing tactics' of the LDF Government, alleging the presence of CPI (Maoists) among the agitators.
The UDF team, led by Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, comprised MLAs Adoor Prakash, Joseph M Puthusseri and K K Shaju. The team held discussions with struggle leaders Laha Goapalan and Sreeraman Koyyon.
The members termed the ''apathy'' of the Government as ''anti-democratic and indifferent'' to the travails of the landless poor. They urged Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to intervene personally in this regard.
Meanwhile, the UDF team was blocked by the estate workers who had been rendered jobless by the agitation.
