TMMK condemns French journalist's remarks

Chennai, Mar 15 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) today strongly condemned French journalist Francois Gautier's alleged statement that the Prince of Arcot had sent goons from the TMMK to close down his exhibition on Aurangazeb in the city recently.

In a statement here, TMMK President M H Jawahirullah said ''Gautier's allegation against the Prince of Arcot Nawab Abdul Ali and the TMMK is enough to judge his sincerity and honesty in reporting history.'' ''The Prince of Arcot neither contacted us regarding the virulent exhibition of Gautier, nor would we send our volunteers at the beck and call of the Nawab,'' he said.

Pointing out Gautier's remarks that a lot of historical research had gone into the making of the exhibition, he said ''we can judge the standard of historical research while viewing his partisan exhibition in Chennai. Gautier cannot report a contemporary event faithfully and truthfully...one can very easily judge the veracity of his version of Mughal history depicted in his exhibition.'' It may be recalled that the police authorities had forced the closure of the exhibition at Lalit Kala Academy here after some Muslim leaders and outfits took exception to the display of certain portraits and Hindu organisations justifying the exhibits.
