Only Pak PM has right to summon Army: PML-N
Islamabad, Mar 14: Only the Prime Minister of Pakistan has the right to summon the armed forces to tackle an emergency situation, and the President must act on the advice of the Prime Minister in such matters, claimed the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal.
According to The News, Iqbal said the "President will not have any prerogative to call the Army. The president is a symbolic supreme commander of the armed forces and can't exercise any powers independently." He was replying to query on what the government would do should President Pervez Musharraf call the Army if he was forcibly told to install the judges that he had sacked on November 2, 2007.
He informed that "The judges could be restored only through a constitutional amendment and by bringing a resolution or change in the laws."
