New Lt Gov promises to work for higher economic growth
Puducherry, Mar 15 (UNI) Lt General (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, who assumed office as Puducherry Lt Governor, today said his priority would be to help accelerate the economic growth of the Union Territory providing equitable opportunities to women and weaker sections in cooperation with elected representatives.
In a message here, Mr Singh said he would endeavour to make Puducherry a model of ''inclusive growth.'' Expressing happiness over Puducherry attaining high-level of human development indices and being in the forefront in education, health care and welfare, Mr Singh said manufacturing and service sectors have been traditional drivers of growth.
He said development of airports, heliports and free ports would be accorded high priority to promote investment in the union territory.
Skill development and vocational education should receive particular attention to meet manpower requirements.
Tourism infrastructure should be further augmented to make Puducherry a long haul destination for domestic and international tourists, Lt Gen (Retd) Singh said.
