Hamirpur, Mar 15: A leopard mauled a two and a half-year-old boy in Daratt village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh last night, police today said.
The boy, Rishabh, was playing with his grandfather, Prem Chand, in the courtyard of their house when a leopard appeared on the scene and snatched the boy from the grandfather's lap, following which he raised an alarm, the police said.

Their neighbourers and villagers rushed after hearing his cries for help and found the boy in critical condition in a remote area after a long chase.

Rishabh was brought to Tounidevi hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The villagers later resorted to a road blockade and demanded strict action against the doctors for negligence.

Hamirpur SP Asif Jalal and DFO Sanjay Sood persuaded the villagers and assured help and cooperation to the deceased's family.

Expressing concern over the incident, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal have sought complete detail of the incident from the Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner and the Forest department authorities.
