Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 (UNI) Infosys CEO Kris Gopalakrishnan today said India should utilise its capabilities to become a major force in the global IT industry.

He was speaking on 'IT Vision 2020' at the valedictory function of Kerala IT.Com 2008 at Technopark here.

He said ''Kerala quietly created an IT industry and today has become one of the most sought after IT destinations in India.'' Mr Gopalakrishnan said India merely contributed five per cent to the 1.3 trillion Dollar global IT industry and it was necessary that ''we gain more prominence globally and contribute more, which is definitely possible.'' He highlighted that today the Indian IT industry worked on few advantages like cost advantage, demographic advantage, IT viable ecosystem and quick adoption to latest technology. ''But we can use these advantages for some more years and then the dynamics of the industry will not be the same. Therefore, it is imperative that India as a country takes the right steps to use this period to plan and get ready for the real action.'' Speaking on the occasion, Law Minister M Vijayakumar said the State Government proposed to make the city the IT corridor of Kerala.

He said that with the upcoming Technocity, Technopark, Kariavattom Campus of Kerala Universtiy, College of Engineering, upcoming International Convention Centre near Technopark, the international airport, international Tourism Centre in Kovalam and the International Sea port in Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram was all set to be known as the IT Corridor of Kerala.
