Pilgrims throng shrine on the India-Pakistan border
Mianwali (Punjab), Mar 14 : Hundreds of Indian pilgrims have thronged at a mausoleum of a Sufi saint that lies just on the India-Pakistan border in Punjab to pay obeisance.
The mausoleum of Pir Baba Sheikh Brahm lies near Mianwali Uttar village in the Khemkaran sector on the Indian side of Punjab.
Devotees from the Indian side were frisked by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel before entering the shrine through an opening in the border fencing. Devotees from Pakistan also paid their obeisance by sending their holy offerings through BSF personnel.
"Our ancestors believed in this shrine and used to come here regularly. Pir Baba and Guru Nanak Dev were related. It's a matter of pride for us that Guru Nanak kept his footsteps on this land," said Balvinder Singh, a devotee.
According to villagers, the Pir Baba was a disciple of Guru Nanak.
Legend has it that Guru Nanak visited Sheikh Brahm before heading for Mecca.
Sheikh Brahm was the eleventh successor of the Muslim holy man Sheikh Fareed.
It is believed that a wish at the shrine of this holy saint leads to a fulfillment of wishes.
