Punj files RS nomination papers, resentments in BJP
Bhubaneswar, Mar 14 (UNI) BJP candidate for Rajya Sabha Balbir Punj, who filed his nominations, today said he was not aware of any resentment against his candidature among partymen.
When mediapersons told Mr Punj that BJP's two office-bearers have resigned in protest of his nomination, Mr Punj said he was not aware of the development.
Several members have expressed their resentment over the decision of the party to select Mr Punj as the official candidate from Orissa ignoring many aspiring leaders from the state.
Defending his candidature Mr Punj said Orissa, although, has a rich heritage and huge mineral resources but its people were not being benefited due to ''step motherly attitude'' of the Union government. He said he would try to become the voice of Orissa in New Delhi and strive for the interest of the state.
Commenting on selection of Mr Punj, senior BJP leader Biswa Bhushan Harichandan said the decision was taken by the Election Committee of the party after considering all aspects.
