Politics over Dalit killing: Mayawati visits, Rahul tomorrow
Etawah, Mar 14 (UNI) Politics over the killing of five members of a dalit family here is hotting up with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati visiting the district, which is also the home town of former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav.
In a gruesome act, five members, including two women, were shot dead over an old land dispute at village Ameenabad in Ekdil area on March 12.
After welcoming Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Varanasi, Mayawati air dashed to Etawah to meet the bereaved family.
Besides suspending the Ekdil police station-in-charge Gyan Prakash Singh during her 30-minutes stay, the CM announced that BSP would take responsibility of the education and marriage of the victims' children.
The state government had already announced a financial assitance of Rs one lakh each to the bereaved family. Besides, Rs 20,000 ex-gratia would be given.
The BSP supremo further directed the police to nab the accused at the earliest and take stringent action against them.
