Nepalese Govt. enforces second phase of security plan

Kathmandu, Mar 14 : Ahead of the April 10 Constituent Assembly elections, the Girija Prasad Koirala Government has enforced the second phase of security plan across the country.

Earlier, the Nepalese Government had dispatched security personnel to Terai districts only.

The Armed Police Force (APF) will be mobilised throughout the country to maintain security for the polls and Terai districts will see more vigil with election candidates getting security for polls campaign, according to the plan.

The government had announced three phases of security arrangement for the polls.

Once the APF personnel are dispatched to electoral process, Nepal Army will take charge of security for key infrastructures.

It may be recalled that on Wednesday, the Nepalese Election Commission (EC) had asked the Koirala Government to check crime and confiscate illegally possessed arms.

The EC's three-point directive to the government came at a time when armed Terai groups, including the two factions of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) and Madhesi Mukti Tigers (MMT), which are believed to have been operating from bordering Indian states, have vowed to disrupt the polls.
