Govt to get 8,000 metric tonnes cement
Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government, which had decided to import one lakh metric tonnes of cement, has so far received 8,125 metric tonnes and will be getting 8,000 metric tonnes of cement every week.
To contain the rise in prices of cement, the government has decided to import cement and sell them at a reduced rate of Rs 220 per bag.
Of the 8,125 metric tonnes of imported cement, 2,000 metric tonnes were sold in the districts of Chennai, Tuticorin, Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli, an official release here said.
Arrangements were made to sell the cement in Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Madurai districts, the release added.
General public could avail the cement at the rate of Rs 220 per bag by directly approaching the district godowns. Those who purchase more than 500 bags will be supplied cement at the work site at the same rate, the release said.
