Bhubaneswar, Mar 14 (UNI) The Opposition Congress today urged the State Government to take a Cabinet decision, move Orissa High Court and the Union Minister of Justice for setting up of permanent or circuit benches in Western and Southern Orissa.
Participating in the admissibility of an adjournment motion and a calling attention motion on the agitation by the lawyers across the state demanding permanent bench of the High Court, Congress Deputy leader Narashingh Mishra demanded that the one-man Commission, set up by the government, would serve no purpose and hence be withdrawn.
Mr Mishra said since the Jaswant Singh Commission had already submitted its recommendation to the Centre outlining the criteria for setting up of the permanent benches of the High Courts in states, the one-man Commission, constituted by the government, will be of no use to solve the problem.
His party colleague S B Sahu alleged that the State Government instead of trying to solve the problems of the agitating lawyers was using police force to suppress the movement.
While the Congress Deputy leader opined that Bolangir was an ideal place for permanent bench of the High court in Western Orissa, JMM Member Bimal Lochan Das and BJP member Droupady Murmy urged the government to consider Baripada in Mayurbhanj district for a bench of the High court.
On the other hand, BJD member Ramech Cahndra Chau Pattnaik pleaded that Berhampur would be an ideal place for entire Southern Orissa for a circuit bench of the High Court.
