Centre notofies land for Trichy IT SEZ
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 14 (UNI) The Union Government has notified the 49.89 hectare of land acquired at suburban Navalpattu for setting up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for IT and IT-enabled services.
Official sources said the notification was issued after the Government satisfied itself with all the requirements under SEZ Act, 2005, for setting up a sector-specific zone.
The sources hoped that the notification would help expedite the proposed establishment of IT parks in tier-II cities like Tiruchirapalli, Salem and Tirunelveli.
They said the state-owned Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), the executors of the mega project, had sought an additional area of about 120 acre in the same area and the district administration had taken necessary efforts in this regard. ELCOT had fixed up the land cost at Rs 15 lakh per acre on 90-year lease hold basis.
Located about 12 km from the city, the 500-acre IT SEZ had arranged for copious supply of water from the nearby river Tamirabarani, installation of adequate capacity electric substation and other basic amenities.
The sources said IT giants like HCL and Sutherland Global Services have registered their requirements at the proposed IT SEZ and CTS were keen on both vacant sites and covered area. Besides, IBM, Infosys, TCS and a few other IT bellwethers have also expressed eagerness to set up a facility in the proposed IT park. It was expected that an MoU would be signed by these firms with ELCOT shortly, they added.
The much-awaited IT Park at Gangaikondan near Tirunelveli was also taking shape, they said.
