Sultanpurlodhi MC employee commits suicide

Kapurthala, Mar 13 (UNI) A class IV employee of Sultanpurlodhi Municipal Council allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance due to alleged harassment by a money lender yesterday.

The victim, Inderjit Kumar, in his dying declaration to the police in the civil hospital at Sultanpurlodhi, alleged that he was forced to take the extreme step due to mental torture and harassment by the money lender, Rajinder Kumar, to whom he had already returned the borrowed amount of Rs 20 thousand.

Agitated by the incident, his neighbours today staged a dharna near Talwandi Chaudhrian Chowk and blocked the vehicular traffic for several hours and demanded the arrest of the absconded money lender.

The dharna was lifted following the assurance given by SDM Kuldip Singh Chandi to arrest the culprit.

The Police has registered a case under section 306 of the IPC against the money lender.
