SMEI opens India Chapter

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) Sales and Marketing Executives International (SMEI), a worldwide knowledge-growth and relationship building forum for sales and marketing executives, opened its India Chapter here today.

With over 50 affiliate chapters around the world, members would benefit from both the strength of an international organisation and the resources the local organisation provided through ongoing seminars, lectures and network opportunities.

Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, SMEI India Chairman S Rao said, ''Free enterprise rightfully involves the right of individuals and groups of individuals acting as legal persons to trade capital goods, labour, land and money.

''With platforms such as SMEI India, people in sales and marketing are empowered to build economies on free enterprises.'' SMEI India CEO and President Govind Rajulu told UNI the specific purpose of SMEI India is to assist Presidents, Owners, Sales and Marketing Executives and Managers in their daily work.

He said in India only 11 per cent of the workforce account for sales and marketing and though it was a lucrative job, many do not opt for it due to various reasons, including lack of support from the family.

To attract students to take up Sales and Marketing, it was proposed to introduce certificate courses which would be hosted by corporate houses in tie-up with Universities, he added.
