Simranjit Mann meets Pawar on Punjab farmers demands
New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann leading a delegation of party leaders today met Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar here seeking the restructuring of Rs 60,000 crore farm loan waiver, better crop insurance scheme and enhancing the Minimum Support Price for the crops and making it a statutory obligation on the government.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Minister which said with restricting of the loan waiver to small farmers having two hectares of land, most of Punjab farmers would not be able to avail any benefit of that since a majority of the farming families were having joint ownership. The joint ownership has been kept for the sake of machanised farming and for raising loans for tractors and other agricultural purposes.
