Ransacked and vandalized the State General Hospital
Barrackpore, Mar 13 (UNI) a good number of hoodlums associated with a patient party ransacked and vandalized the Bhatpara State General Hospital at Jagaddal in North 24 Parganas today.
The incident occurred following death of a 56-year old local woman Sumitra Devi, who was admitted to the hospital on March 11 with stomach complaint. She was today referred to the city hospital when her heart ailment was detected, but the patient party did not take care of her to send to the city hospital. Incidentally, the patient breathed her last in the afternoon, superintendent of the hospital Dr. Soumabha Dutta said.
He alleged that a group of people rushed to the hospital and ransacked the emergency and other wards. They also assaulted two medical officers of the hospital and some female attendants who had tried to prevent the attackers.
Hospital complex became a free for all and the police were initially out numbered to control the situation, Dr Duta said. A reinforcement of police brought the situation under control.
However no arrest was made so far, police said.
