Production warrant issued against Phoolan Devi murder accused
New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) District and Sessions Judge Satnam Singh today issued production warrant against Sher Singh Rana and two others, accused in the Phoolan Devi murder case.
Sher Singh Rana had filed an application for transfer of his case from the court of Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal, where he was facing trial in connection with the Phoolan Devi murder case.
Rana had filed an application stating that he had no faith in the present court and his case be transferred to some other court.
According to the prosecution, Rana, along with 11 others, had conspired to kill Phoolan to avenge the 1981 Behmai massacre, in which she had killed 17 people belonging to the Thakur community.
Phoolan was murdered outside her Ashoka Road residence on July 25, 2001.
According to the prosecution, this step by Rana is a tactic to cause further delay to the trial as he had also made a plea earlier, in 2004, for transfer of his case from the court of Additional Sessions Judge D S Pumia.
The court ordered that Rana be produced before it on March 28.
