President accepts Mithi's resignation

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today accepted the resignation of Puducherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi and appointed Andaman and Nicobar Lt Governor Bhopinder Singh to discharge the additional function of Puducherry LG.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said here that while accepting the resignation of Mr Mithi, the President has appointed Andaman and Nicobar LG Lt Gen (retd) Bhopinder Singh to discharge the function of Puducherry LG until regular arrangements are made.

Mr Mithi is set to contest the Rajya Sabha elections from his native state of Arunachal Pradesh due March 26. The last date for filing nominations is March 15.
