Islamabad, Mar 13 : The Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will share positions in the new cabinet and parliamentary committees according to the proportion of their seats in the newly-elected National Assembly.

PML-N leader Javed Hashmi said the formula for distributing ministries between the two parties at the Centre and in the Punjab province had been finalised.

According to this formula, the PPP will have 54 per cent of berths in the federal cabinet, the PML-N 40 per cent and the Awami National Party six per cent.

The ministries will be allocated after negotiations between the PPP and the PML-N.

The heads of parliamentary committees will be nominated through "mutual understanding" under the same formula, Hashmi said.

Opposition members will be asked to head some parliamentary committees, he added.
