More widespread rain expected in next 24 hours

Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) A feeble trough of low pressure formed over Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coast would bring more widespread rainfall especially in Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours, Met officials said here today.

The officials said heavy rainfall was likely to occur at a few places over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanniyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry.

Isolated light to moderate rainfall was likely to occur over the remaining districts of Tamil Nadu, the officials said.

Fishermen had been warned not to venture into the sea during the next 24 hours as strong onshore winds from northeasterly to easterly direction with speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph were also likely along South Tamil Nadu coast.

Kattumannarkoil (Cuddalore district) recorded the highest rainfall of 24 cm during the last 48 hours.

Chennai recorded 12.2 mm rain during the last 24 hours.
