MDMK not to contest RS polls
Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) The Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK), an ally of the main Opposition AIADMK, today decided not to contest the March 26 biennial polls to the Rajya Sabha from the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
A decision to this effect was taken at the party's Parliamentary board meeting held here an MDMK release said.
The meeting also thanked the AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa for allotting one seat to the party.
The Opposition combine has a total of 66 seats and they fall short of two seats, if they have to win both the seats.
The AIADMK with 60 MLAs in its kitty, could easily win one seat and offered to allot the remaining 26 seats to the MDMK, which has six MLAs.
Considering that each candidate should have the support of 34 MLAs, the MDMK would fall short by two seats.
