Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) Maharashtra Government has cheated farmers by falling back on its promises, BJP state unit president Nitin Gadkari said in the Legislative Council today.

Mr Gadkari also criticised acting Governor S C Jamir for praising the government in spite of ''the false promises''.

''The government had promised free power, cotton prices at Rs 27.50 per kg and complete loan waiver to the farmers, but nothing has been done,'' Mr Gadkari told the House.

He said the ''false promises'' will boomerang on the government.

Mr Gadkari also ridiculed the Congress and the Nationalst Congress Party for ''fighting with each other to claim credit for the loan waiver announced in the Union Budget''. The Maharashtra government had even released advertisements to all the newspapers and erected hoardings announcing the loan waiver decision three days prior to the actual announcement, Mr Gadkari alleged.

Mr Gadkari also criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India and its president Sharad Pawar and the recent auctioning of the players. Taking strong exception to the presence of cheer leaders during matches saying it was vulgar, he wanted to know whether the state government would impose a ban on cheer leaders as it had done with bar dancers.

He also want an immediate withdrawal of load shedding as it was affecting the students and the farmers.
