Saran appointed PM's special envoy on climate change
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Mr Shyam Saran, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's special envoy on the Indo-US nuclear deal, will also be special envoy on climate change in addition to his present responsibility.
Mr Saran, a former Foreign Secretary, has played an important role in the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement which is at a crucial stage of negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Mr Saran's appointment as special envoy on climate change is significant as there is growing awareness about global warming and consequent civilian nuclear energy.
Mr saran is expected to play an important role in coming years with increasing focus on climate change leading to the global climate meet in Copenhagen in November 2009.
