Sahitya Sabha to take up Assam case in Centre
Guwahati, Mar 12 (UNI) The Asom Sahitya Sabha (ASS), an apex literary body, will put forward the ''Assam case'' by organising a national seminar at New Delhi on Friday on the challenges before the State.
The body, for the first time, will try to rope in all the political parties and intellectuals of Assam to have threadbare discussion on different problems being faced by the State and adopt a Delhi Declaration.
Addressing a press conference here today, ASS president Kanaksen Deka said it was an unprecedented step by the Sabha to go outside the State and put forth the challenges faced by the state infront of all. The seminar will be inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen S K Sinha, who was also the governor of Assam for a crucial period.
Issues like infiltration, insurgency, demographic changes, restoration of peace, will be discussed in the seminar.
''With the Delhi Declaration, we will be carrying the voice of the civil society at the Centre,''Mr Deka said.
''Within our limited resources, we shall be happy to play the role of a facilitator for the civil society'' he said asserting that they would represent the interest of various ethnic tribes.
