Rice procurement crosses 20 mn tonne mark
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Government's procurement agencies have so far procured 20.85 million tonne rice in the current kharif marketing season, a million tonnes more than the procurement achieved on March 12, 2007 (19.83 MT).
It the entire marketing season last year (October 2006-September -2007), 28.80 MT rice was procured.
The States procuring more than one million tonne rice in the current kharif season include: Punjab (7.69 MT), Andhra Pradesh (3.3 MT). Chhatisgarh (2.64 MT), Uttar Pradesh (2.52 MT), Haryana (1.56 MT) and Orissa (1.46 MT).
