NIT likely to conduct AIEEE counselling
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 12 (UNI) The National Institute of Technology (NIT) is likely to take over the responsibility of conducting AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examinations) counselling from the Central Counselling Board (CCB) of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The CBSE would, however, conduct AIEEE for the academic year 2008, NIT sources said here today.
The NITs would conduct the counselling and take the responsibility of setting question papers from the following year.
Similar to the conduct of the Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examinations (IIT-JEE) and counselling by one of the six IITs in the country every year on a rotation basis, one among the 20 NITs in the country would be made a nodal agency for the conduct of AIEEE every year, the sources added.
Based on the result of AIEEE 2008, one of the NITs would perform the task of allocating seats to be filled up as per quota on All-India basis in participating central institutions, Deemed Universities and other institutions in the country.
The chosen NIT would execute the various responsibilities hitherto undertaken by the CCB such as finalisation of procedure, schedule, centres and arrangements for counselling. This would bring a major relief for students belonging to the central districts who would appear for the AIEEE from 2009 onwards, the sources added.
