Govt employees stir, police force deployed

Puducherry, Mar 12 (UNI) Tension prevailed as a group of ministerial staff assembled in front of the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries (DAT) here to organise their agitation to press their demands.

The ministerial staff are on a mass casual leave to press their demands, which include revision in their pay scale and filling up of all vacant posts.

Last evening, police arrested as many as 140 staff, who erected a pandal in front of the DAT and staged a demonstration. They were taken to the revenue court and the sub-divisional magistrate(SDM) ordered to keep them under custody. Being night time, 35 women staff were sent home and 105 others were kept in the community hall at Gorimedu.

They would be produced before the SDM again this evening.

As a precautionary measure police force were deployed in front of the DAT. "Vajra",the water cannon vehicle, was also stationed near the venue of the agitation.
