DRDO chalks out policy for women scientists

Bangalore, Mar 12 (UNI) The DRDO had chalked out a new policy for inter-laboratory transfer to help young women scientists, who constitute about 14 per cent of the workforce in the organisation, DRDO Director General M Natarajan said today.

Speaking at the function -- '50 years of DRDO: Women in Science, Engineering, Administration and Technology', Mr Natarajan, who is also the Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, said the Directors of the labs were directed to encourage women scientists to form forums and explore the possibilities of sending them to foreign countries for training, he said.

Admitting that the attrition rate, which was about 15 per cent, in the organisation was a worrying factor, he, however, said the appointment of 3,500 young scientists during the last few years had helped the organisation immensely.
