Bhopal, Mar 11 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government was today urged to suspend the Collector, Sehore, and other officials responsible for an assault on a senior journalist besides ordering a judicial inquiry.

A memorandam -- submitted to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan by the Central Press Club here -- described the targeting of UNI stringer Ramnarayan Tamrakar as ''shameful,'' demanded suspension of Collector Raghavendra Singh, free treatment and compensation for Mr Tamrakar.

Mediapersons sporting black badges will protest in front of Mr Chouhan in the Assembly tomorrow.

The scribe was targeted by a team of police and administrative officials after he issued news regarding a dispute between the Collector and a parliamentarian's driver.

Mr Tamrakar's establishment was demolished yesterday after being labelled an ''encroachment,'' he was dragged along the road and beaten all the way to a police station.

A delegation of the main Opposition Congress met Governor Balram Jakhar and echoed the journalists' demands. A Tamrakar community delegation also met Mr Chouhan in this regard.
