Patna, Mar 11 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today dubbed the waiving off farmers' loans by the UPA Government as a 'futile' exercise.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Kumar said the soaring prices of essentials were the real problems, which could not be contained till the Congress remained in power at the Centre.

Mr Kumar said normally the ruling party remained in illusion about the people's support to its policies and the UPA too was in the similar illusion.

He said the actual problems of the farmers could not be solved just by waiving off the loans as it would benefit only those farmers borrowing loans from the nationalised Banks.

The Chief Minister further said the V P Singh Government too had taken similar step in 1990, but in the elections his actions had failed to yield positive results.

He said the present inflation was the major issue as everyone was reeling under it.

Highlighting the achievements of the previous NDA Government at the Centre, Mr Kumar said overproduction of the foodgrains had become a problem as their storage at that time was a major headache before the government, but the present UPA Government was importing the food grains.

Mr Kumar said the Bihar Government had prepared an agricultural roadmap for tapping the potential of Agriculture sector in the state, and it implementation would begin in the next financial year.

The government would spend Rs 5000 crore during the next four years under the roadmap.
