NCP MLA moves privilege against Orissa CM
Bhubaneswar, Mar 11 (UNI) NCP MLA Arun Dey today moved a privilege notice against Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for making a policy announcement at a farmers rally in Baragarh during the ongoing Assembly session.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr Dey said the Chief Minister while addressing the farmers, announced that not a single drop of water from Hirakud Dam, meant for Agriculture, would be diverted to the Industry.
He said it was a breach of privilege on the part of the Chief Minister to make such an announcement in a public meeting when the Assembly is in session.
The state government, Mr Dey said, has signed the MoU with the private houses for providing water to the industry adding that if at all it did not want to divert the water to the industries, then Mr Patnaik should come out with a notification in this regard.
Stating that the Hirakud Dam was farmers' oriented, the NCP MLA said there was no justification on the part of the Chief Minister to announce that not a drop of single water from Hirakud Dam would be diverted for the industry.
Mr Dey said the Chief Minister's address to the farmers was aimed at 'hoodwinking' the people. If the state government was really keen not to divert the water from Agriculture to Industry then it must come out with a government notification.
