Left stages walkout over 'delaying' Committee recommendations

Hyderabad, Mar 11 (UNI) Members of the CPI and CPI(M) today staged a walkout in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in protest against the ''non-implementation'' of the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee recommendations on land distribution to the poor.

Dissatisfied with Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao's reply on the issue, CPI(M) Floor Leader N Narasimaiah led his party members out after alleging that the Government was ''insincere'' in implementing the recommendations made by senior Minister K Ranga Rao.

CPI Floor Leader Ch Venkata Reddy claimed that laws relating to land reforms were only implemented on paper, before leading his party colleagues out of the House.

Asserting that the Government was committed to land distribution, the Minister said it was only when the Congress was in power at the Centre and in the State, major land laws were enacted. Over six lakh acres were distributed by the Government so far.

The Government had constituted the Committee only because of its commitment to provide cutlivable land and houses to the poor, he said, and added that 90 of the 104 recommendations were accepted and orders issued for implementation of 41 recommendations.

The Government had created the post of Special Commissioner in the office of the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration through GO 1176 (revenue), for overseeing the implementation of the Committee recommendations, he informed.
