HC notice to TN Govt on HCP by advocate, seeks reply
Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) The Madras High Court today ordered notice to the State Government on Habeas Corpus Petition (HCP) filed by an advocate, seeking CBI inquiry into the alleged gang rape of convict Ganesan's wife Nathiya by the Vellore prison officials.
The bench comprising Justices D Murugesan and V Periyakaruppiah admitted the petition and directed the State Home Secretary to file a reply within two weeks.
The counsel for the detainee had earlier filed a HCP in the Madras High Court, seeking a direction to the prison authorities to produce the body of the convict, who was beaten up by prison officials to extract a signature from him.
Counsel R K Ayyappan also sought a CBI inquiry into the alleged gang rape of Ms Nathiya by the prison officials and false virginity report filed by the Vellore District Superintendent of Police, when she was produced before the court on February 25.
The bench also admitted a similar petition filed by another advocate Hari Babu on behalf of 'Human Rights Protection Council'.
