Government cannot stop outsiders coming to Mumbai: R R Patil
Mumbai, Mar 11 (UNI) The Government cannot stop people from coming to the city from other states, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today told the Legislative Council even as the Opposition members demanded a discussion under Rule 289 .
Responding to the discussion over Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's anti-North Indian campaign, which figured in the Budget session of the Council today, Mr Patil said unprecedented action under Section 153 (A) of the Indian Panel Code was initiated against the MNS chief and others who were responsible for violence in the state.
He said the law and order situation in the metropolis was now peaceful.
Demanding a stand from the government on the issue, MLC Kapil Patil asked the government to make a statement over it.
Shiv Sena MLC Deepak Sawant, however, said the Government should give priority to the ''sons of the soil'' over the North Indians, in providing jobs and demanded a discussion on the issue during the Budget session.
