Coast Guard rescues sick foreign crew member
Panaji, Mar 11 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard helicopter has rescued a seriously ill foreign crew member of merchant vessel 'Konkar Theo' of Panama, here.
The maritime Rescue Centre of Coast Guard, Goa, yesterday received a message for assistance from the vessel, which was at high seas, 45 nautical miles away south of Goa, for evacuating 55-year-old Greek citizen Konstantinos Gkogkas, who was suffering from paralysis on the left side, a official release said here today.
The centre asked the vessel to divert and come closer to Goa Coast at 1645 hours. When the vessel reached about five nautical miles off Goa coast, the Coast Guard helicopter was launched and the patient was evacuated and admitted to the Salgaocar Medical Research Centre Vasco for treatment.
