Patna, Mar 11: After several years of dilly-dallying, Bihar Government has finally bought 79 horses for the state police force, the state Assembly was informed today.

Replying to a starred question of Opposition Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) member Achutayanand about the six-year-long delay in the purtchase, Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav informed the House that although an expert committee was formed way back in 2001 during the RJD regime for the purchase of horses for the state police force, after examining their breed, it took longer than usual to select the animals for policing duty.

Ruling out any possibility of finanancial irregularities in the bulk purchase from Faridkot, Jaipur and Bhatinda, the minister said, each of the 79 horses had been purchased at a cost of Rs 1,14,000.

He said the horses, following their arrival here late last year, had already been inducted into the state police force for launching a new mounted police force battalion in line with some other states.
