6 veterans receive Godavari Gaurav awards
Nashik, Mar 11 (UNI) Six veterans from various fields of life were honoured with the prestigious Godavari Gaurav awards of the Kusumagraj Pratishthan yesterday.
The awardees of the biennial award included, Baba Adhav for social service, scientist Dr Anand Karve for his contribution in the field of science, veteran sculptor Sonu Natekar, Acharya Parvatikumar for dance, renowned director Adoor Gopalkrishnan for movies and chess player Praveen Thipsay for sports.
In his address as the chief guest of the function, Retd Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari said, ''The Apartment culture has hampered our culture. The society is in a freezing state. In such a situation, there is need to preserve our culture. Coming together of people who have done extraordinary work in various fields of life can change the world. The Godavari Gaurav award is a salute to such people and their work.'' The award comprises Rs 11,000 in cash, a memento and a citation.
On the occasion, the award winners also expressed their thoughts.
Chief guest Dharmadhikari gave a cheque of rupees one lakh on behalf of his Global India Foundation to the chairman of the Pratishtan Dr Jabbar Patel, for creation of a hall 'Jeevandarshan' at the Kusumagraj Memorial here.
