RS elections: TN CEO appointed poll observor

Chennai, Mar 10 (UNI) The Election Commission has appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta as its observor for the March 26 Rajya Sabha elections from the State Assembly.

An official release here said the CEO would be monitoring the process of scrutiny of nomination papers and remain present during the poll/counting of votes to oversee that the procedures, laid down as per law, were being followed.

The Commission had appointed the Assembly Secretary as Election Officer.

In Tamil Nadu, filing of nominations, which began on March 8 to elect six members from the 234-member Assembly, would close on March 15. If necessary, election would be held on March 26.
