Kerala to extend 'Our Tree' prog to colleges

Kochi, Mar 10: The Kerala Government is planning to introduce 'Our Tree' project in colleges and universities from next year to create awareness on environmental issues among college students, Forest Minister Binoy Viswom said.

Inaugurating an environment awareness programme for mediapersons, jointly organised by the Ernakulam Press Club and the the Kerala State Bio-Diversity Board here yesterday, Mr Viswom said the progamme had already been successfully introduced at the school-level. About 25 lakh saplings had been planted by the school children under the project, since its launch in June last year. The State Government's other environment awareness programmes such as 'Vazhiyorathanal' and 'Harithatheeram' would be continued.

The Social Forestry Department would undertake a campaign on ''Global Warming - Tree Is Answer'' among the public, the minister added.
