Archbishop condemns firing incident
Puducherry, Mar 10 (UNI) Condemning the police firing at Eraiyur in Villuppuram district of Tamil Nadu yesterday in which two people were killed, the Archbishop of Cuddalore and Pondicherry, Rev Anthony Anandarayar demanded a probe into the incident.
In a statement here last evening, Rev Anandarayar urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to constitute an inquiry commission headed by a magistrate and grant compensation to the kin of the firing victims.
He appealed to all sections of the Christians to maintain peace and added that the archdiocese would take urgent steps to resolve the issues that led to the clash between the two groups.
He also pointed out the setting up of a committee to look into the demands of the Dalit Christians of Eraiyur including permission for a mass on Saturday.
